Running Gear, Props & Thrusters
Barnacles love running gear. Props, shafts, thrusters, and intakes foul faster than anything else on the boat, and they are where growth does the most damage to how your boat runs.
The parts that foul first
Metal running gear sitting in warm salt water is a magnet for hard growth. A propeller with barnacles on the blades loses its bite, so the boat is slower and the engine works harder. A bow or stern thruster packed with growth can stall out right when you need it to dock. Blocked intakes and transducers cause overheating and bad readings.
What we clean
- Propellers, blades, and shafts brought back to bare, smooth metal
- Bow and stern thrusters cleared so they push at full power
- Trim tabs and their hinges freed of growth
- Raw-water intakes and strainers cleared to keep engines cool
- Transducers cleaned so your electronics read right
- Hydraulic swim platforms checked and cleared of growth
Running gear cleaning is part of every hull cleaning we do, and we can also come out for it on its own if you have a thruster acting up or a prop that has lost its punch. Tell us what is going on and we will take a look.
